Flickering Light Mistaken For Subway Fire
UPDATED 01/10/11 1:06 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Several fire trucks were sent to a Loop CTA subway Monday morning after someone mistook a flickering light as a track fire.
An EMS Plan 1 and still-and-box alarm were called at 9:20 a.m. at 188 N. State St., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said. Crews were responding to a reported fire in the subway, but no fire was found and there were no reports of injuries.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's John Cody reports, First Deputy District Chief Patrick Donnelly said even though there was neither smoke or fire in the Red Line subway tunnel, the warning call was understandable..
"There's an anonymous call -- there's a flickering of light in the tube, and sometimes people mistake that for a problem and the call it in, which is good," Donnelly said. "Our citizens need to do that."

Donnelly says two Red Line trains pulled into their stations and unloaded passengers without incidents as fire units searched the tracks.
Red Line trains were rerouted to the elevated tracks between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown during the search, CTA spokeswoman Wanda Taylor said.
Power was temporarily shut down at the State/Lake station, but normal operations had resumed as of 10 a.m., she said.
At least 17 fire trucks and six ambulances responded, according to dispatch reports.
