Emanuel: Protesters Wrong To Shut Down Police-Reform Meeting
Emanuel To Police Protesters: Let's Talk
(CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he understands the emotions of protesters who shut down the final meeting of his Task Force on Police Accountability earlier this week, but he doesn't approve of the results.
WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports.
Emanuel says people are emotional over problems between the police and the community. He is not happy, however, that a raucous meeting of his had to be halted because of protesters Thursday night.
He says people need to listen to each other, and they might find they more things in common than they realized.
The task force has been directed to come up with proposed changes in police procedures and policies. It's already made recommendations for releasing videos and other evidence in police shooting cases.
A wave of protests began late last year when the city, under court pressure, released police dash-cam video of a white police officer shooting a black teen. The Chicago police officer was charged with murder.
