East Garfield Park Woman's Fire Death Ruled A Homicide
CHICAGO (STMW) -- The death of an elderly woman killed in a "suspicious" fire in East Garfield Park earlier this month has been ruled a homicide.
Margaret Noble, 79, died Saturday following the March 8 fire at her home in the 300 block of South Albany Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Another person, a 39-year-old man, was critically injured in the blaze that started on the first floor of a coach house about 3 a.m., fire officials said at the time.
Firefighters put out the flames about 40 minutes after arriving, authorities said.
An autopsy Monday found that Noble died of carbon monoxide intoxication and smoke and soot inhalation, with heart disease listed as a secondary factor, the medical examiner's office said. Her death was ruled a homicide.
The police Bomb and Arson Unit was called to the scene and the fire was considered suspicious, police said at the time.
