As the Cubs rested up Monday for their two-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers, they added some possible bullpen relief.

The Cubs acquired Drew Pomeranz, 36, from the Seattle Mariners for cash consideration. The veteran left-handed pitcher, who has not pitched in a Major League game since 2021, will report to Triple-A Iowa.

MLB.com noted that Pomeranz posted a 4.66 ERA in 9 2/3 innings this season with Triple-A Tacoma, and recorded 14 strikeouts and six walks.

In his last run in the majors, Pomeranz pitched to a 1.75 ERA in 27 appearances with the San Diego Padres, according to MLB.com.

He tore his flexor tendon in August 2021, and has logged 19 1/3 innings in three minor league seasons, MLB.com reported.

Pomeranz also pitched for Cubs Manager Craig Counsell during the 2019 season with the Milwaukee Brewers.
