Pedestrian hit, killed on busy Touhy Avenue in Lincolnwood, Illinois
A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle early Tuesday on busy Touhy Avenue in the north Chicago suburb of Lincolnwood.
Lincolnwood police said at 6:34 a.m., a pedestrian was crossing Touhy Avenue at Kildare Avenue and was hit by a vehicle traveling west.
First responders performed lifesaving measures, and the victim was rushed to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, but the victim's life could not be saved.
The identity of the pedestrian who died was being withheld midday Tuesday pending family notification.
Lincolnwood police did not specify what kind of vehicle hit the pedestrian. But video from the scene showed a tow truck sitting in the middle of the road, and a pair of shoes and a bag scattered in the roadway nearby.
Following the crash, Touhy Avenue between Kostner and Keeler avenues — a stretch of .25 mile — was shut down in both directions so crews could investigate and clean up the scene.
Lincolnwood police and the Major Crash Assistance Team were investigating the crash.
