ComEd heading to Northwest Indiana to assist NIPSCO in restoration efforts
ComEd crews are heading to Northwest Indiana to assist NIPSCO in power restoration efforts, 11 days after powerful storms knocked out power across the region.
As of Saturday, more than 32,000 NIPSCO remained without power.
On Friday, NIPSCO estimated Hammond should have power back by Saturday night. Portage and Gary aren't expected to have power fully restored until Tuesday.
ComEd is sending more than 60 employees to assist in restoration work with NIPSCO crews. They plan to leave the ComEd facility in Chicago Friday afternoon.
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against NIPSCO, accusing the company of failing to properly manage trees and vegetation around power lines before the storms.
