Chicago Activist's Immigration Trial Nears End

DETROIT (AP) -- A Chicago activist charged in Detroit with illegally getting U.S. citizenship is returning to court for more testimony about why she didn't disclose her convictions for bombings in Israel.

Rasmieh Odeh is the final witness at her trial. Lawyers also are expected to give closing arguments Friday.

Odeh is associate director at the Arab American Action Network in Chicago. She answered "no" on her citizenship application in 2004 when asked about any criminal history, despite spending a decade in an Israeli prison for bombings in 1969.

Odeh told jurors Thursday that she believed the questions were related to a criminal record in the U.S., not abroad.

She claims the Israeli military tortured her into confessing to the bombings, but she can't use that as a defense.
