Driver Killed After Crashing Into Tree As Police Attempted Traffic Stop In Washington Heights

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A driver has died after crashing into a tree in the Washington Heights neighborhood in an attempt to flee police early Monday.

Police said, around 2:30 a.m., officers tried to pull over a black Jaguar sedan after the driver ran a red light, but the vehicle fled the scene.

The 48-year-old driver crossed a set of Metra tracks, lost control, and crashed into a tree near 103rd Street and Vincennes Avenue.

The driver was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with head trauma in critical condition and died shortly after.
