Bears Hire Curtis Johnson As Receivers Coach

By Chris Emma--

(CBS) The Bears have officially named their newest coaching hires, which includes the addition of former Tulane head coach Curtis Johnson as receivers coach.

Johnson, 54, was fired from Tulane after the 2015 season. He has 32 years of coaching experiences, including 28 years as an NFL receivers coach. Johnson spent the 2006-'11 seasons working with the New Orleans Saints, who then employed current Bears general manager Ryan Pace.

In four seasons with Tulane, Johnson compiled a 15-34 record, which included a 2013 bowl berth.

Mike Groh, a receivers coach previously hired by Marc Trestman, was allowed to accept a job with the Los Angeles Rams, one that presumably included a promotion from his role in Chicago.

Additionally, the Bears have announced the hiring of Ben McDaniels as an offensive assistant. McDaniels, who spent last season as Rutgers offensive coordinator, is the brother of Patriots offensive coordinator and former Broncos coach Josh McDaniels.

Bears coach John Fox has a history of finding and growing young coaching talents, such as Adam Gase, Dennis Allen, Mike McCoy, Jack Del Rio and more. McDaniels gets a comfortable seat that may include a promotion in the coming years, whether that's in Chicago or elsewhere.

Chicago has also tabbed Pierre Ngo as its strength and conditioning coach.

This offseason, the Bears also promoted quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains to replace Gase as offensive coordinator. Gase moved to become coach of the Miami Dolphins. In replacing Loggains, the Bears hired Dave Ragone as quarterbacks coach.
