Firefighter Seriously Injured When Roof Collapses In Auburn Gresham Fire
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A firefighter was seriously injured Friday evening when the roof fell as a fire raged in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
The fire broke out at 8739 S. Aberdeen St., officials said.
The attic was on fire, and crews went into the house to search for residents who were possibly trapped inside.
The roof collapsed while the firefighters were in the house, and one firefighter was taken from the scene in serious-to-critical condition, officials said.
The firefighter was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a condition reported to be stable, the Fire Department later added.
"The good news – he is in stable condition and appears to be doing well," said CFD District Chief John Giordano.
All eight residents inside the home did make it out safely.
