Another Win But Maybe A Big Loss
The White Sox recorded another win last night beating the Angels 4-1 but they also might have suffered a loss in starting pitcher Jake Peavy. The veteran right hander threw a pitch in the 2nd inning and immediately was in pain ultimately walking off the field. The injury is being called a strain to the right latissimus dorsi muscle which is located below his right shoulder.
The Sox will perform an MRI on Peavy later today with his status updated afterwards. But if you go my body language and emotion this appears more serious then a strain. The former Cy Young award winner was extremely down after the game and anytime that Jake Peavy leaves a game you know it's something serious. He admitted that he had been having some discomfort in that area going back to his last start and even felt it warming up prior to Tuesday's game. If Peavy goes on the DL his place would likely be taken by Daniel Hudson who continues to pitch well at AAA.
The injury overshadowed another solid all around game by the Sox. Tony Pena replaced Peavy on the mound and pitched four plus innings for the win and JJ Putz, Matt thornton and Bobby Jenks all threw scoreless relief out of the bullpen. Jenks finished up for his 18th save.
Offensively, Alex Rios and Andruw Jones each hit home runs and Juan Pierre had 3 hits as the Sox have now won 20 of their last 25 games.
