After The Bell: Stocks Rally On Wall Street Amid Optimism Overseas

By Andy Giersher

(CBS) -- Stocks closed sharply higher Tuesday, recovering some of last week's losses, as traders were encouraged by a rally in global equity markets.

The major indices closed more than two percent higher with the Nasdaq climbing back into the black for 2015, as the S&P 500 and Dow Jones industrials remain negative for the year. The Nasdaq gained 128, the S&P 500 added 48 and the Dow Jones industrial average closed up 390 points, settling to 16,493.

"It looks like people were enthusiastic about overseas developments including good economic numbers out of Germany. There seems to be at least a pause on concerns about China and today was really the first trading day of the post vacation period with most traders back at their desks," says Chuck Carlson CEO of Horizon Investment Services.
