The Parent Report: Walking To School Is Making A Comeback

BOSTON (CBS) - It's something you don't see much of anymore...kids walking to school.

Podcast

Here's a new concept...kids walking to school. Well, of course it's not new...it's the original way to get to school, but hopefully walking is making a comeback.

Doctor Pauline Hamel, coordinator for a program in the New Bedford Public Schools, encourages kids to get out and walk. Hamel says walking to school can help fight child obesity, lower asthma rates among kids, and generally help get them prepared for the school day.

Hamel says any community can encourage students to walk to school. And she says not only is walking healthier for kids, but it also teaches some valuable life lessons.

So parents, if you can get your kids out….WALK!
