BOSTON - The WBZ-TV Weather Team has issued a NEXT Weather Alert through midday Wednesday as overnight snow showers switched to periods of moderate to heavy rain.

Expect much of Massachusetts to be under dense clouds, patchy fog, and wind gusts approaching 50 miles per hour.

By Wednesday late morning into the early afternoon, we begin to see drier air infiltrating the region allowing for precipitation to wind down though clouds will linger. At the same time, surface temperatures are forecast to climb some 5-to-10 degrees above normal with forecast models leaning towards the mid-to-upper 50s.

Any additional rainfall, could bring 0.25-to-0.50 inch with limited ponding expected. But be careful with leaves scattered across roads which could cause dangerous travel in the event of sudden braking.

Thanksgiving weather forecast

Thanksgiving Day looks rather pleasant. Expect highs in the 40s to near 50. High school football games in the morning will be chilly in the 30s with some gusts still around 20-to-25 mph.

As for the rest of the holiday weekend, quiet conditions remain the central focal point with a pretty sizable cold airmass moving in. Saturday likely to be the coldest of the 7 day forecast.

The next chance of any precipitation (likely rain) comes Sunday night and Monday.
