Officer Rescues Mother, Child From Burning Taunton Home

TAUNTON (CBS) -- A police officer rescued a mother and child from their burning home in Taunton Wednesday night.

Taunton Police said an officer responded to the fire around 10:12 p.m. Wednesday at a house on Longmeadow Road. The officer smelled smoke, found the fire, and notified the Taunton Fire Department.

Police said the officer then went into the house and helped a mother, her young child, and their dog, who were all sleeping upstairs, get out of the burning building.

Neither the officer nor the residents were injured.

The Taunton Fire Department said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
