Report: Patriots Employee Shown On Video Taking Footballs Into Bathroom

CHANDLER, Ariz. (CBS) -- January 26, 2015, 10:55 p.m. ET.

That was the exact moment when "DeflateGate" went from utterly absurd to ... well, to even more utterly absurd.

You see, it was at that exact time when Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio dropped a "bombshell" of a report, a follow-up to Jay Glazer's earlier report, one that would shine a whole new light on the entire case.

He reported that a man went to the bathroom.

It's newsworthy in this case because that man was the person in charge with bringing the footballs to the field for the AFC Championship Game. According to Florio, "the person carried two bags of balls into the bathroom:  the 12 balls to be used by the Patriots and the 12 balls to be used by the Colts. ... Video shows the employee in the bathroom for approximately 90 seconds."

Cue the stunned crowd reacting!

So, you ask: What could this ball boy possibly have been doing in a bathroom for 90 seconds? Might he have been carrying out the wicked deed of deflating 12 footballs by a full 2 PSI ... or ... was ... he ... going to the bathroom?

It's not too difficult to imagine that a person who was about to stand on the sidelines for a couple of hours before halftime might want to take a potty break prior to heading out there, and it's a bit easier to imagine that bathroom things took place in the bathroom rather than football deflation things.

Alas, this is what the world has come to: Folks are sitting around NFL offices, poring over surveillance video, finding people who went to the bathroom. That's where we're at as a society.

I have no doubt that the Ministry of Silly Walks will have their best people on this case.
