Ainge On Toucher & Rich: Celtics 'Trying To Win Every Game'

Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge called in to Toucher and Rich to talk Celtics, but he also congratulated the Red Sox and addressed the rumor that he wanted to be in Hoosiers.

Danny Ainge opened the interview by touching on the Red Sox and just how great it is to be in Boston on a day like this. From a fan and media perspective, this Red Sox team didn't have a lot of expectations going into the season, but ended up going on a memorable postseason run and were ultimately crowned champions. Danny thinks that's a lesson that can be applied to this current Celtics team, but stressed that the two sports are very different.

"We can take from what the Red Sox did because they weren't expected to do well, but basketball and baseball are so different," said Ainge. "In basketball, one player can change an entire franchise, and it's different than baseball and football where there's more parity. If you don't have one of the top five players in the game the championships don't come your way."

Rich then referenced an ESPN The Magazine article by Jeff Goodman titled "The Art Of The Tank" – where an anonymous NBA General Manager spoke candidly about how his team is actively tanking to better their shot at the NBA Lottery. He asked Danny straight up if that anonymous GM was him, and his answer was simple.

"First of all, I don't do anonymous. If I say something I just say it. Second of all, I don't talk to the media about those kind of plans. We're trying to build a culture. We want to win, we want our guys to learn. We want our coach, who is a young new coach, to experience winning. At a certain time in the year your goals may change, but right now we're trying to win every game."

Towards the end of the interview, Rich asked Danny about an internet rumor: Did Danny Ainge want to play the role of Jimmy Chitwood in Hoosiers?
