Dan Devine On Adam Jones: Celtics Can Ramp Up Love Offer If They Need To

BOSTON (CBS) -- Depending on what day it is, or even what hour, the Boston Celtics are either the favorite to land Kevin Love or their offer isn't good enough for the Timberwolves.

It was reported Tuesday that the Celtics had the best offer in the eyes of the Wolves, but then on Wednesday it was reported their deal wasn't good enough. Luckily the NBA Draft is just one week away, so the Kevin Love roller coaster should come to an end fairly soon (until then, follow along with the Kevin Love Watch).

Dan Devine of Yahoo Sports joined The Adam Jones Show on 98.5 The Sports Hub Thursday night to discuss the Kevin Love situation, and he said with their pair of first round picks and young talent such as Jared Sullinger or Kelly Olynyk, the Celtics have a very good offer to Minnesota. And if Danny Ainge needs to add a future draft pick or another body to further enhance Boston's proposal, he should have no trouble doing so.

"In terms of sheer amounts of assets, they can put together a pretty compelling offer," said Devine. "There are a lot of ways for Danny Ainge to get creative, and as we know, he's not going to suffer from a crisis of confidence or a lack of will if it comes down to adding a little more to the table than the next guy. But Minnesota has to be looking at the prospect of taking back a couple of B, B-minus assets, or something outside of the top of the lottery, and say 'maybe we have to make another run to get something better,' a little more of an established talent than say a Jared Sullinger.

"I still think we haven't seen the best possible offer shaken out, but I wouldn't bet against Boston being able to ramp up what we've already heard," he said.

Devine notes that the Timberwolves are not a team that can draw highly talented players in free agency, and instead must rely on acquiring that type of players through a trade. That's where other teams with more proven NBA talent, such as Houston with Chandler Parsons and potentially the Denver Nuggets, hold a slight advantage over Boston.

Devine also touches on Houston and Chicago's pursuit of big-name free-agents-to-be Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James, and if either team will be able to land the players they covet this off-season:
