Daily Talker: Are School Districts Being Too Sensitive Over What Can Be Celebrated?
The PC police are on patrol....again.
This time in the crosshairs -- Halloween celebrations in a Pennsylvania elementary school.
Costumes, parades and parties are out -- because they're apparently too religious.
In a letter sent home to parents -- the principal of Inglewood Elementary wrote, "The district must always be mindful of the sensitivity of all the members of the community with regard to holidays and celebrations of a religious, cultural or secular nature."
End of story, right?
Not so fast.
After parents complained, the school district went on damage control and threw the principal under the bus.
The district issued a statement about the principal's statement saying it is "not an accurate representation of the school district's administrative regulation"
The district went on to say there can be Halloween parties in classrooms and that there will be Halloween and fall-related activities at ALL of the district's 18 schools.
In recent years, some Massachusetts schools, including one in Newton and one in Raynham banned Halloween for religious reasons.
Are school districts being too sensitive over what can be celebrated?
