Copper Pipe Theft Causes $3K Damage To NH Home
MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) - A man allegedly attempted to steal copper piping from a Manchester, New Hampshire home on Monday, causing $3,000 in damage.
Chris Sullivan, 35, was arrested and charged burglary and reckless conduct.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m., a resident and her brother arrived at the home on Mammoth Road and spotted Sullivan carrying a cardboard box from the home to his pickup truck, according to police.
Sullivan allegedly put the box in the bed of his truck and hopped in the driver's seat. The brother told police he then asked Sullivan what was in the box, but Sullivan started to back up his truck.
The brother then latched onto the side of the truck, telling Sullivan to stop, police said. Sullivan continued to back up the truck and fled the scene, but not before the brother was able to grab one of the boxes, which contained copper piping, from the truck.
Moments later, police caught up with Sullivan at the corner of S. Beech Street and S. Willow Street, and found a second box of copper piping in the bed of the truck.
At the home, police discovered that the rear basement door had been forced open and copper piping had been cut away from the plumbing, causing water to leak.
The home, which is up for sale, sustained $3,000 in water damage.
