Bradley Jay: 'The MBTA Should Be Required To Include An English Version Of Announcements?'

Podcast

Listen To Bradley Jay's Comments.

The other day I was waiting for a train at the Fenway stop on the Green Line.

The loudspeakers crackled to life with an announcement, but I could not understand the message because it was in Spanish.

I waited for the English version, but none was forthcoming.

So this is what we have come to.

Not only is English not the official language, but at the MBTA it is not even important enough to include an English version of every announcement.

I believe that a melting pot like the United States needs the common bond of a common language and that the language should be English.

It is bad enough that we encourage people to avoid learning English by making it easy for them not to.

But to actually have a public announcement on public transportation that dos not include an English version is unacceptable.
