Boston's Best Toddler-Friendly Activities

There are plenty of fun and adventurous activities in and around Boston that toddlers (and parents) will enjoy. Busy toddlers like to touch, feel and experience the world around them. Interactive activities bode best to entertain these adorable, easily awestruck beings. Here are a few ultra-special and exceptionally fun toddler-friendly places to visit in the historic City of Boston.

Make Way for Ducklings Statues & The Swan Boats

After reading the popular children's book, "Make Way for Ducklings" by Robert McCloskey, it is time to make your way to the Boston Public Garden to visit the bronze statues of Mrs. Mallard and her eight ducklings. Toddlers love to sit and pose on the ducklings, creating a perfect photo opportunity. A 15-minute ride around the Public Garden Lagoon, which is just steps away from the duckling statues, on the Swan Boats will finish off a perfect afternoon.

Boston Children's Museum is a haven for toddlers with the many interactive exhibits that they can experience and explore. There is the ever-popular Arthur and Friends exhibit, where young children can see themselves playing with Arthur and his friends on a large screen. The Construction Zone! is a child-sized construction site, just like those they see around them every day in the real world. This exhibit affords toddlers a haven to dig, climb, build and raze their buildings. Another popular toddler exhibit, Bubbles, allows families to experiment with bubbles of all shapes and sizes.

This amazing zoo, within the City of Boston, has many fun and interesting components. There is a Tropical Forest, Giraffe Savannah, Butterfly Landing and so much more as well as, of special interest to those with toddlers, a Children's Zoo. There are large and small animals to watch in their habitats. Toddlers love to watch everything from the prairie dogs digging to the ducks swimming around their pond.

Puppet Showplace

Puppet Showplace Theater has been entertaining children for 40 years with the venue now presenting over 300 performances to more than 24,000 patrons every year. The puppet shows are diverse and they all tell a special story to the eager young audiences. There are shows specifically geared to 2-to-5 years old, which include The Swan and Clown Circus. This venue also hosts birthday parties with a puppet show included in the celebration.

Everywhere you look in the New England Aquarium, there is something spectacular to see, from the four-story Giant Ocean Tank, filled with over 1,000 animals, to the live sea lion show. Even if you are a half-pint toddler, the sprawling spiral walkway up to the top of the Giant Ocean Tank has a fully open view of a Caribbean coral reef and its many inhabitants. The Sea Squirts classes at the New England Aquarium, which showcases the sea world, are tailored to 2 to 4-year-olds. There are many opportunities at this venue to encounter live sea animals like sea turtles, penguins and even starfish to hold in the palm of your hand.
