This is the meat and potatoes of filmmaking, covering everything from camera use to editing software. This gives locals and students a learning opportunity that may have otherwise been inaccessible to them. The idea is to combine the filming, writing and other aspects of the workshops with the inspiring setting of the campus and surrounding city. These are full-time intensive workshops. Housing is available for a fee so students can save time on the commute.

This course offered by the Massachusetts College of Art and Design is an intensive documentary course that covers every step of the process. Students will learn about planning, camera use, editing and presentation of their projects. This course is overseen by David Tames, an established documentary filmmaker who does a lot of filming in Boston. This mini summer film school also has courses specifically regarding different steps of the process, such as documentary camera, documentary sound and documentary editing for students looking for a more specific course.

The Digital Media Academy at Harvard University has a very extensive selection of course options for summer camp students.
