Boston Marathon Winner McFadden Gives Gold Wreath To Arredondo
BOSTON (CBS) - In a gesture to honor the survivors, victims and heroes of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, the winner of the 2014 Boston Marathon Women's Wheelchair Division race gave away the gold-dipped olive wreath shortly after the ceremony.
Tatyana McFadden was running for Team MR8, Boston Marathon bombing victim Martin Richard's foundation.
After the ceremony, McFadden, wearing a Team MR8 jersey handed her gold wreath to Carlos Arredondo, who was watching from the stands near the finish line.
"I just wanted to tell him thank you for our support," she said. "It's much more than just winning a race today. It's about those who were affected (by the 2013 bombings)."
For McFadden, who is celebrating her 25th birthday, this was her second Boston Marathon and second consecutive victory.
