If Economic Plan Doesn't Work, "You'll Have A New President"

(CBS)
At an appearance in Florida today to sell his stimulus package, President Obama suggested that he will be voted out of office if his stimulus package is seem as unsuccessful.

"A few years from now," the president said, "you'll have a new president" if his plan fails or is perceived to have failed.

The supportive Florida crowd seemed skeptical that Mr. Obama might be voted out of office in 2012; at one point, an audience member yelled out that the president really has eight years to work with, prompting cheers and a smile from the president.

One questioner asked how the president would deal with what the questioner believed to be the impatience of the American people. The implication: If Americans don't see results soon, they will turn critical of the president for pushing a failed stimulus package.

"I think the American people understand that we didn't get into this fix overnight and we're not going to get out of it overnight," the president said in response. "I think people understand it is a very big and complicated problem."
