Star Spangled Stories: The modernization of Maryland’s Thomas Shoal Lighthouse
Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay has dozens of historic lighthouses, including the Thomas Shoal Lighthouse, built in 1875. The lighthouse served as a navigation tool and a lifeline for trade, travel and fishing communities along Maryland’s waterways. The lighthouse was automated in 1964 and is now run by the U.S. Coast Guard.
