World Cup Not A Part Of MY World
With our football currently in its slowest time news wise, the Worlds football takes center stage and I'd be lying if I told you I cared.
I've been known to enjoy an NFL game or two and see it as the premier sports league in MY world. I would argue this point with any and everybody as I strongly feel the athletes in the NFL are the symbol of peak physical performance. What it takes to be an elite NFL performer is countless hours of pushing your body to the limit, and as a fan nothing is more exciting than watching those hours pay off on Sundays as a 'freakish' defensive end comes off the edge and lays a hit on the quarterback that causes him to lose control of the football. A rush for possession ensues and if you're lucky you'll be treated to a fumble returned for TD. Every piece of this single play can be broken down whether it be poor line play, a missed assignment, or just bad QB play. Bottom line being every player on the field can be graded on their performance on that 1 single play making each person's role all the more important. I respect the work it takes to become a premier athlete at this level and when fans of other sports attempt to put their athletes on the same page I feel its ridiculous to the point it's almost disrespectful to said athletes workout regimen. I have always held the opinion that soccer is as skillful as it is relevant in this country. I do feel it has its place in the sports landscape but in that same breath so do ping-pong and horseshoes. For me it's a charming little backyard game that happens to have a few people in the stands watching it. Now I concede the fact that it has massive worldwide appeal but so do the Olympics and how much of the Olympics intrigue you? I just don't have any interest in giving an event a couple hours of my life only to have no real conclusion. For those that are die-hard soccer fans, and around the world that description may ring a little truer than others, as people literally die at these events, it's perfectly OK. I'm just saying I'd rather see David Tyree catch a pass against his helmet, than see Ronaldo hit a pass against his head. Wouldn't You?
