Woman's Death From 1985 Shooting Ruled A Homicide

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Police say the death this year of a woman paralyzed in a 1985 shooting has been ruled a homicide.

However, because of laws in effect that year, no one will be prosecuted.

Police say Pamela Prowant was found shot multiple times in Laurel on Nov. 1, 1985. She was paralyzed in the shooting and used a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

Prowant died on Jan. 29. In April, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide resulting from the 1985 shooting.

Police consulted with the state's attorney's office and found that state law in 1985 required a victim die within a year and a day after a crime for someone to be charged with murder.

The case will not be prosecuted.
