When will the Media and the League take the pampers off the Golden Franchise?
On a day when a press conference was held to confirm that charges would not be filed against Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, I began to wonder how the media coverage might change if Ben played in Oakland or Cincinnati. You see these 2 organizations are regarded as rock bottom in the NFL. Any trouble a player is involved in becomes not only a personal deal but an organizational problem. Yes it's true Ben Roethlisberger has been hammered "this time" around for his judgement or lack thereof. I say this "time around" because he's been accused of rape once before. The mystery at that point was why nobody over at ESPN touched this story. Show after show, is was evident the network was refusing to cover it. Even now, Big Ben's legal issues have been his and his only. Nobody would ever dare question the golden franchise of the Pittsburgh Steelers. They do things the right way and every other organization can only dream of becoming as pure as the Steelers...blah blah. On the same day the Super Bowl champion was cleared of any crimes, the Super Bowl MVP was traded out of town to New York. Of Course I speak of Wide Receiver Santonio Holmes who allegedly hit a woman with a glass after an argument at a nightclub. Now no introduction is needed for Kicker, yes KICKER Jeff Reed's repeated offenses. His latest set of charges were dropped, ironically on the same day as all of this other Steelers news. Now check this out...this is beautiful. Jeff Reed was originally charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after interfering with police as they tried to cite STEELERS tight end Matt Spaeth for urinating in a parking lot. Classic guys, just classic. Now none of these cute little nuggets ever make it to your Television, and for some reason charges on each of these have not stuck. Now if these were Raiders players or Bengals players would it be written off as simply a Character flaw or personal situation? No, it would be shifted to questioning the organization of its values and leadership. The Steelers, on the other hand, are untouchable. Their players simply have run into jams here and there, because there is no way Pittsburgh could lack this same leadership. No way, not the Rooneys, not Mike Tomlin; it simply can't be. I am not sayin, I'm Just sayin.
