WEATHER BLOG: The Heat Is Back
After topping out at 96 degrees Sunday, we made it all the way back up to 95 Monday afternoon. Highs are going even higher Tuesday and Wednesday before we start to back off this round of heat. Our average high so far this month has been 94 degrees. When you factor in both our highs and lows, we are running 6.1 degrees above average for the month.
Even though we will back off the peak of this heat later in the week, something drastic would have to happen for this month to not finish above average. That would make it the 18th month in a row where our temperatures have been above average. Yes, the last time we had a below average month was that frigid January back in 2011.
We did get some rain and thunderstorms over the weekend, with just a few thunderstorms popping up across the state Monday afternoon. Those will die down overnight. Our next chance for thunderstorms comes with a new cold front later Wednesday. Scattered thunderstorms could become strong. This front will slow down and get strung out over the Mid-Atlantic Wednesday night into Thursday. That will keep scattered showers and some thunderstorms around.
We don't need the lightning from those thunderstorms, but hopefully we can get a decent dose of rain. We are really struggling in that department. For the year, we are up to a deficit of 8.47".
It looks like the front will slowly move just to our south Friday. If it does, it will take the showers with it.
