WEATHER BLOG: Saturday

A cold front across the Ohio Valley is moving towards the east spreading showers and thunderstorms across western NY,PA,MD. This will spread high cirrus towards our region for the morning hours as most of the showers and thunderstorms dissipate in central parts of NY/PA/MD. There could be a stray shower or thunderstorm that makes its way into the Lehigh Valley and Since we are going to be prefrontal today we will see one more hot and humid day across the region. The sun will shine through the high cirrus this morning and then by mid-day we will see cumulus clouds start to build as showers and thunderstorms start to develop from the west and move to the east. The best chance of seeing the showers and thunderstorms will be from 2pm-8pm but something can pop around mid-day as temperatures climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s. Heat Index will be pushing the middle 90s with dew points in the lower 70s. With those temperatures and PWATS around 1.8 inches we can see heavy rains and looking at soundings we could see gusty winds as we have unidirectional shear around 30kts. So wind and heavy rain will be the primary threat this afternoon. We will see the cold front move through the region this evening allowing for showers and thunderstorms to linger in eastern parts of the viewing area for this first half of the night. Western region will dry out as the clusters of thunderstorms press onto the east. By tomorrow we will see a large area of high pressure over the Mid-West will move into the western parts of New England. With the northerly flow we will see a big difference in airmass as temperatures will be about 10 degrees cooler with much lower humidity. At the same time there is a low pressure slowly becoming more organized off the SE coastline bringing showers and thunderstorms to the Southeast. This low pressure will ride along the cold front that moved throughout region this afternoon towards the Mid-Atlantic. High pressure over New England will try and suppress any moisture from the low pressure moving up from the south. We could see showers and thunderstorms move into the southern DELMARVA or even maybe into the southern tip of New Jersey. High pressure should keep places north of the Mason-Dixon line dry. Our flow does shift more out of the east which may help increase the cloud cover and keep our temperatures cool.
