WEATHER BLOG: Low Of 7

The last time it has been this cold was 8 degrees on Jan 24, 2011. You have to go back to 2009 for anything colder than our overnight low of 7. It was 2 degrees on Jan. 17, 2009 and 8 degrees on Jan. 24, 2011.

With high pressure in control, there will be mostly sunny skies Saturday, though there will be patchy clouds at times. With the center of the high moving off to the east we will have moderation from our very cold start Saturday morning and without the wind that helped enhance the cold feel to Friday, we are hearty enough in this part of the country to accept the 10+ degree below average high temperatures with a shrug.

The high moving farther out into the Atlantic will start the moistening, warming southerly flow on its back side Saturday night and Sunday and right through Sunday night. It's ahead of the frontal system that stretches from the western Great Lakes to northern Texas. A low pressure area will develop along that front and track up west of the Appalachians Sunday night and up into Quebec Monday. The front will sweep eastward and deliver another shot of intense Arctic air across our area Monday morning and right into the midweek.
