Mary Bubala reports experts say use a power-controlling device to reduce the energy consumption of the appliance's electric motor. This works for most appliances made before 1990.
Power controlling devices are sold at most retail stores and cost $30 to $60, but experts say you can save hundreds of dollars in energy costs each year.
