Gavin Buckley Sworn In For Second Term As Mayor Of Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley was sworn in for a second term Monday afternoon.

In recognition of the occasion, the city hosted a parade that wound from Calvert Street onto West Street before culminating in a ceremony downtown.

During his remarks, Mayor Buckley thanked his family and supporters for helping him win reelection. He also recounted some of the challenges that arose during his first term.

"Make no mistake, we suffered losses with Covid, we suffered losses from overdoses, from gun violence, too. With each loss, we mourn those loved ones, especially at this time of year when we feel it the most," Buckley said.

But he vowed to bridge the partisan divide during his second term and promised to provide a government that served all of its constituents.

"It is my hope that this era of Annapolis will become known for our progress on equity initiatives, and also a time when our city became the resilience capital of America," he said in part.
