Vigil Held For Murdered Teacher
GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ) -- In Anne Arundel County, a former teacher was found murdered in her car. Family, friends and an entire community honored her memory Monday night and made a plea for justice.
Denise Koch reports hundreds filled a Glen Burnie parking lot to remember Myra Cason.
It's the same parking lot off Ritchie Highway where police found the 63-year-old dead inside her car last weekend.
"We lost a gem. My mother is like a diamond in the rough," said Orlondo Sewell, victim's son. "People like my mother don't come along. They come along once in a lifetime."
Police say Cason left her doctor's office just before 8 a.m. Friday. Thirty minutes later, witnesses saw her car drive around the parking lot before stopping. But it wasn't until 11 that someone found her slumped over in the front seat, shot in her upper body.
Those who knew her say Cason looked out for everyone.
"It's just shocking," said Shirley Sewell-Boone, family member. "It's just terrifying. It just hurts to the bottom of our heart just to know someone would do something to such a nice, wonderful, loving woman."
Now her only child is begging for the murderer to come forward.
"Just turn yourself in. That's all we want," he said. "We don't want nobody to go ahead and do nothing in retaliation."
Police believe this was a robbery. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-222-3458.
