Tuesday at the ballpark
Not too much to report from Camden Yards today ... Few injury updates. First, Mike Gonzalez will throw one inning out of the bullpen tonight in Aberdeen while Felix Pie will play tonight and tomorrow night in Bowie. According to Juan Samuel, Pie will be evaluated after tomorrow night's game and a decision will be made as to whether he's ready to join the Orioles. If he's ready, obviously a roster move will need to be made. Samuel also said that Pie will most likely return to the leadoff role, as nice of a job as Corey Patterson's done. Will Patterson or Pie then DH and if so, where does that put Luke Scott? Options, option, options.
Samuel also said he will most likely ease Gonzalez back into the closing role... where does that put Alfredo Simon? Again, options.... every manager would love to have them.
Jake Fox was looking forward to facing his old team today but A's starter Dallas Braden was scratched with elbow stiffness which in turn pulled Fox out of the DH role and put Luke Scott right back in.
Well, the winning streak was fun while it lasted. The O's couldn't pick up Brian Matusz who has not earned a win since April 18 in Oakland. The O's looked like they were going to make yet another comeback but Koji Uehara gave up the A's fourth run of the game in the eighth inning, crushing any hopes the O's had of increasing their winning streak to a season-high five games. The O's will play two more against Oakland at home before hitting the road for a 10-game road trip before the All Star Break.
