Truth Told: This Stinks!
Get to know new Orioles relief pitcher Will Ohman- he also helps serve as comic relief amidst the toughest of times for the O's during their dreadful start to the 2010 season. He joined me and the Bulldog in our live broadcast before the homestand finale and Ohman dropped a refreshingly honest and cathartic line: "I'm not gonna lie, 1-and-7 stinks!". These guys are feeling the pain of their failure and as much as they sprinkle what optimism they can ("we're actually playing pretty good baseball"), the reality of the record (now 1-and-8) is weighing on them.
And it's clear that manager Dave Trembley is feeling the weight of his responsibility as the man to suffer the most severe consequences of a bad start. Check out the podcast of our live interview with Trembley on Wednesday and listen to his frustration when talking about the players mistakes (namely, Felix Pie). Trembley says the media should ask them "what the hell they were thinking" when those players screw up. One national media insider who was at Camden Yards told me that Trembley's words are a bad sign, that a "seige mentality" is a sure sign of a sinking ship. The ship is headed west to Oakland, and according to Will Ohman, the odor has become unbearable.
