Towson University Police Cpl. Peter Publico Released On Recognizance On Child Pornography Charges

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- A Towson University Police Department corporal who faces multiple child pornography charges was released on his own recognizance Tuesday, online court records show.

Cpl. Peter Publico, 53, of Essex, turned himself in to police on Monday on two felony charges of distributing child pornography and a misdemeanor charge of possession of child pornography.

"We know the investigation began after detectives found out back in February, he had distributed several images of child pornography to others," Baltimore County Police Detective Robert Reason said.

According to the police report, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Publico on Thursday, June 18, and he turned himself into police Monday, June 22.

Towson University officials said the school is cooperating with the Baltimore County Police investigation.

Publico has been suspended without pay, is not allowed on the Towson University campus and has had his police powers revoked, the university said in a statement Monday.

Detectives from the Baltimore County Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating this incident.
