Thieves Steal Copper Wire In Md.

LA PLATA, Md. (AP) -- Charles County officials say thieves climbed an electrical pole to steal some 4,000 feet of copper wire from a utility company.

Police say the wire stolen Tuesday morning belonged to the Southern Maryland Electric Company. The wire was being supported between two poles, and thieves apparently climbed an electrical pole to get it.

Sheriff's department spokeswoman Diane Richardson says copper and industrial metals are attractive targets for thieves who attempt to recycle the metal for money.
