The "Kid" is done

Ken Griffey Jr. retired yesterday at the age of 40.  He played 22 seasons,  most of them with the Seattle Mariners.  Griffey hit 630 home runs, currently good for 5th all time.  Unfortunately, it should be Griffey and not Barry Bonds who passed Hank Aaron as baseball's all time home run leader.  Griffey was arguably the best player in baseball for about ten seasons, but injuries ravaged his body once he left Seattle to join the Cincinnatti Reds.  The cool thing about Griffey is he just walked away, effective immediately.  No going away tour, no fanfare.  For a long time, Ken Griffey Jr was "The Show".  He never wanted to be a side show.  Griffey is still the only player to hit the wharehouse at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
