Teen Fatally Shot In Baltimore County

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- A teen died on his front doorstep, shot in broad daylight.  Now police are trying to figure out who did it.

Andrea Fujii explains the murder put nearby schools on alert.

As kids walked home from school Tuesday, Highland Village neighbors heard gunshots.

"These kids are senseless. They're crazy," said Tina Akins.

A group of high school boys started fighting, then shooting.  A 17-year-old boy, new to the area, died after at least one bullet hit him. He was identified as Keon Dobbs.

Police say after Dobbs was shot, he was able to run about 150 yards---to where his family lives---before he collapsed.

"That's mostly what it is: gangs killing each other and kids killing each other," said Derek Jones.

"A couple of kids from the school, I want to say about a week ago, came to the house with bats and branches and I'm thinking they were trying to get the guy then.  They didn't get him and they got him today," said Tiffany Jones.

The victim's family didn't want to speak with WJZ, but neighbors had plenty to say.

"It's scary.  I live [nearby] so it's really close to home," said a neighbor.

"It's ridiculous that they can get a gun.  It's ridiculous.  It's sad," Akins said.

"Constantly hear teenage bickering outside but it's twice now in a matter of six months that there's been deaths in the neighborhood," said Rachel Miller.

Last Halloween, a 16-year-old boy was killed by gunfire two blocks away from Tuesday's shooting.  A 17-year-old is awaiting trial for that case.

The latest murderer in Highland Village has not been arrested. Right now, investigators continue to talk with witnesses and are trying to determine exactly what the motive for the shooting was.
