Tebow a Nazi???

A radio host in Boston made a remark about Tim Tebow's draft party. He found it odd that the attendees were white, and said something along the lines that it looked like a Nazi rally.  Pretty outrageous stuff I guess if it were not for the fact it was said by a morning radio host.  By the very nature of the job radio hosts try to be polarizing to make the phones ring and generate "water cooler talk".

I have no real problem with the remark not because I'm blindly protecting a fellow radio guy or even because he works for my company (CBS) .  I say things that are often over the top so I feel it would be really hypocritical if I laid him out for things I do on occasion.  My problem is that we feel so comfortable saying words like Nazi, Klan etc when describing white people in jest. Yet I remember a prominent radio host getting canned for making such comments about a basketball team that happened to be made up of black women. Don Imus was fired for such comments but this Tebow remark will not be punished ...and probably shouldn't be.

Look, let's be honest there are very different standards for different people. If anyone said anything about C.J. Spiller's draft party that contained a racial remark he or she would have been fired and Al Sharpton would be leading a rally as I type.  One standard should be adhered to by all. No one group should be treated differently. Racism is racism no matter who the target is. Either we tolerate off color remarks or we hold everyone to one standard...period.

I'm disturbed that we have to be careful uttering common phrases like"black hole" when describing an empty space yet calling a young football player who is barely out of college a Nazi is OK.  We really need to get a grip on ourselves and stop being so politically correct when it suits us.  It makes the racial problems in America that much worse.
