Teacher Killed When Stolen Car Crashes Into Van
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore City Police have identified the man killed when a stolen car slammed into his van as a school teacher and musician.
Mary Bubala has the latest developments in the investigation.
The accident happened Saturday afternoon at Belle and Ferndale Avenues.
Police say a shooting suspect had stolen a car near Mondawmin Shopping Center.
An officer later spotted the vehicle, leading to a high-speed pursuit.
The suspect crashed into the van of Wendell Hairston, 60, who later died.
According to WJZ's media partner, The Baltimore Sun, Hairston taught public school in the city for nearly four decades.
At one time, Hairston also reportedly led a jazz group made up of former students.
Police have one person in custody in connection with the crash, but are looking for another and haven't said what charges will follow.
