Take a Bow
Go ahead you deserve it!
Josh Bell- Hit his first major league homer Saturday in the 3rd inning of an 8-6 win. In the next inning he hit his second, two homers in 2 innings and off Cy Guy Cliff Lee, he just missed a 3rd later doubling off the top of the wall. Who said the switch-hitter couldn't hit right-handed, both bombs came from the right side off the plate.
Koji Uehara- In the same game that Josh Bell dialed long distance, Koji got his first major league save. For nearly a season and a half Koji looked like a big league bust, but now healthy Koji has come up as big as his sideburns. Since July 5th Koji has been darn near perfect. In 15 games since July 5th Koji has given up only ONE run in 18 innings, and how 'bout this, he's struck out 20 hitters and walked only 1! I guess July 5th is Koji's Independence Day.
Fabian Washington and Lardarius Webb- All that re-hab work is being rewarded for these two Ravens cornerbacks. Washington who tore his ACL last November was back on the field Saturday night against the Redskins. Monday, Webb was taken off the PUP (physically unable to perform) list and moves a step closer to the field. Webb tore his ACL in December. Washington's and Webb's return should be a boost for a Ravens secondary that's a big question mark with injuries to Ed Reed and Dominique Foxworth.
Noticed former Ravens DB Derrick Martin getting the hook Saturday night in Seattle. Martin, one of Green Bay's top special teams players was tossed out of game for taking a swing at a Seahawks player. Martin played in 28 games with the Ravens from 2006-2008.
E.J. Henderson- The Aberdeen prep and Maryland Terps star has made an incredible comeback. The Vikings talented linebacker snapped his left femur in one of those, I can't bear to watch the replay moments in week 13 last year. His brother Erin held his hand as he was wheeled off the field, later there was speculation that he may have suffered a career ending injury. Sunday night there he was, 8 months later beating the odds and the 49ers blockers. Henderson had 7 tackles and an early vote for comeback player of the year.
Fred Funk--The 54-year-old former Maryland Terps Golf Coach cashed a $392-thousand dollar check Sunday winning the Tradition in Oregon, it's one of the 5 major tournaments on the Champions (Seniors) Tour. Funk won the same event a year ago, it's his 6th win on the Champions tour, he won 8 tournaments on the PGA tour. Fear the straight shootin' Turtle!
Chesapeake Bayhawks-- Based out of Annapolis with a roster littered with area college stars they are the champions of the 2010 Major League Lacrosse Season. With an ordinary 8-6 record they survived a 5-game losing streak and Sunday downed Long Island 13-9 to win the Steinfield Cup. The Cup named after league founder "Body by Jake" Steinfield. "If you gotta door you gotta gym." The Bayhawks have Jake's Cup.
