Suspect In Hundreds Of Crimes In 3 Counties Arrested

HARFORD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) ―A business break in and the case of a stolen purse in Harford County lead police to a suspect they say is responsible for over a hundred crimes.

Suzanne Collins
reports victims of the thefts are from Harford, Baltimore and Howard counties.

At The Mill in White Hall, Md. where country clothes, feed and horse supplies are sold, crime is a rarity. But on Nov. 1, someone smashed a window and broke in.

"Came in and made several trips hauling arm loads of Carhartt clothing to his pickup truck and drove off," said Ben Hushon, The Mill employee.

Fifteen hundred dollars worth of clothing, gone. But now some of those items and a storehouse of others, including over 100 GPS units, wallets, tools, even a cash register have been seized by police from a home in Edgewood.

Rory Leftwich, 41, has been arrested and charged.

"The detectives, deputies found over $25,000 worth of items assorted items ranging from sports equipment to electronics to detergent," said Monica Worrell, Harford sheriff.

Police are linking Leftwich to 100 thefts. The lead came from surveillance cameras at The Mill store and a detective's sharp memory.

"We could see the pickup truck come in and the deputy yelled to partner, co-worker, 'come here and look at this, this looks like the same guy from 7-11,' " Hushon said.

On October 25, police say Leftwich was at a 7-11 in Jarrettsville, Md. They say he smashed the car window of a woman who went in the store, and took her purse.  Then he was captured later on surveillance video using her credit card.

Police say the goods came from car thefts in Harford, Baltimore and Howard counties. Court records show Leftwich got a 15-year suspended sentence for burglary in Montgomery County two years ago. He's currently facing drug charges in Anne Arundel, and a Prince George's jury acquitted him of burglary last year.

Right now Leftwich is being held without bail in the Harford County detention center.
