Sunset Elementary Wins 18th Annual Mammoth Manic Monday Meltdown

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- If you were in Fells Point Monday morning, you probably heard a lot of people singing.

Dozens of folks gathered for WJZ's 18th Annual Mammoth Manic Monday Meltdown.

Ron Matz reports on who took home the big prize.

The big crowd was ready, and many made the trip to Fells Point all the way from the eastern shore.

Towson University took home an award, and so did the Mocha Ladies book club.

"We thank everyone for their votes," said Icsha Flowers of the Mocha Ladies book club. "We plan to come back next year, too."

The Baltimore Blast Cheerleaders were also all smiles as they performed.

"It means so much to us to be in the Baltimore community," said Sarah, a Baltimore Blast cheerleader. "To be out here and be with the fans, it's great."

Sunset Elementary School ended up being crowned the Manic Monday Champion.

"The students feel an immense sense of pride," said Beram-Liimatta, teacher at Sunset Elementary School. "To perform so beautifully [and] get up in the morning with their families... they're very, very dedicated. It's been a team effort and huge accomplishment for our students. It doesn't get any better than our school."

General Manager Jay Newman and former WJZ anchor Don Scott later congratulated the winners and thanked everyone for tuning into WJZ for the competition.
