BLOG: Stormy Weather Heading Our Way
Enjoy the sunshine today, because a few different storms and a lot of clouds are headed our way.
The next storm is forming across the South today. It will pick up moisture as it moves along and then pass just off to our south tomorrow. Expect clouds to come in overnight and then spotty rain and drizzle throughout the day tomorrow. The cold air will not be that far away, so there will be some snow in western Maryland and maybe even some wintry weather mixed in at the very beginning or end across northern Maryland. This storm will head out to sea tomorrow night, but there is another one right on its tail.
There are a lot of questions with this second storm still. The orientation of the jetstream will be changing later this week. Anytime that the pattern is trying to change, the computer models usually have a hard time with specific tracking and timing of storms. In our case, it's not going to make much of a difference in the kind of weather we are getting (as the cool air and stormy track will continue) but it will have an effect on the timing and tracking of the storms. Then that ends up affecting the storms farther upstream that will be coming our way later - like the one at the beginning of next week.
This is what we are pretty sure of...that the next storm moves our way later Thursday into Friday and could be cold enough for sloppy snow to mix with the rain. The cold air is going to stay very close by, so western Maryland will get some snow out of this second storm, too. For the rest of it, it will mostly likely be a cold rain possibly with some snow mixed in. It will get out of here on Saturday, but leave the weather pattern very unsettled with a huge trough dug out over the Northeast. That will keep the cold air around, and draw even colder air down. Basically, highs will continue to run about 10-15 degrees below average right into the weekend...and our average is now up to 59 degrees.
It looks like we get a break on Sunday before another storm moves our way. Unfortunately, it's looking like it will arrive for the home opener on Monday. We will obviously be watching this one with a peaked interest, like many of you out there, and will fine tune the forecast as we get closer. However, right now there is definitely a storm moving this way and it looks like it will get here on Monday. Stay tuned...
