Son Charged With Assault Against Mother in Carroll Co. Crash
MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) — A Howard County man has been charged with first- and second-degree assault after he grabbed the steering wheel from his mother during an argument in the car and caused a wreck in Mount Airy.
State police say Susan Harbison was behind the wheel of a Honda sedan and her 18-year-old son Devin Harbison was in the passenger seat at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday when the two began to argue. Police say Devin grabbed the steering wheel and intentionally cause the car to veer off the roadway into the front yard of a nearby home. The car struck a basketball hoop, a tree and other debris stacked near the house. Devin was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, while his mother was airlifted to Shock Trauma for her injuries.
Devin Harbison also faces a reckless endangerment charge. He is awaiting an initial appearance before a court commissioner.
