Soccer? Really? Hmmm.

So, Major League Soccer has released attendance figures for their games.  They claim the 16 teams in their league have higher attendance, on average, than the NBA and NHL.  The MLS is 3rd on the list of most attended average sports.  The NFL is first with an average of 67,508 fans per game.  MLB, in spite of the O's 9k Monday night, is second with 30,213 per game.  MLS averages 18,452.  NBA=17,110.  The NHL sees 17,004 per game.  NASCAR got screwed again.  It was not considered.

The Ed Norris Show debated soccer today.  Ken Weinman said soccer will never be a major sport in the USA.  Callers disagreed stating something about the amount of illegals in the US, etc.  Whatever.  The guys from Palace Baltimore Soccer Club will end the argument tomorrow morning at 8:10am.  www.palacebaltimore.com

I hate to say it.  But, soccer attendance will continue to grow.  Set aside the 'illegal' or 'breeding rates of soccer fans v. breeding rates of baseball fans' arguments.  The main reason:  Kids don't play baseball anymore.  And, losing season streaks don't help interest.

I had a drink with my buddy and his daughter at Slider's before the O's home opener last Friday.  Ironically, she was 9 the last time the O's had a winning season.    'Nuff said.

Attendence will grow.  In fact, The DC United will gain '2' in attendence this Saturday night.  My young niece chose their game against Chicago as her birthday gift from me.  Her first major sporting event.  Funny, she never talks about the Nats.  I can't wait to see her face when her team in her favorite sport takes the field...or pitch...or whatever the hell they call it.
