Slug Fest at Camden Yards
The O's bats finally woke up against a division rival. With Daisuke Matsuzaka on the mound for his 2010 debut, Baltimore took advantage of any rust the right hander may have had. The fifth inning sealed the deal for the Red Sox as Ty Wigginton hit a solo home run, his seventh of the year, to put the O's back in the game at 4-2 Red Sox. But the inning unfolded for the Sox... Rhyne Hughes singled to center, Nolan Reimold walked, Cesar Izturis hit into a fielders choice moving Hughes to third, Adam Jones singled to to third scoring Hughes (4-3 Sox), Nick Markakis tied the game (4-4) with a single of his own to center and Matt Weiters knocked them all in with a three-run HR, his third of the year, to put the Orioles up 7-4.
Another solo shot for Wiggington, make that eight in 2010, and a three-run show from Markakis in the seventh gave the O's an impressive 11-4 lead.
But guess who's making a comeback....
Victor Martinez hit a two-run single to center and Kevin Youkilis hit a two-run homer to center both of Mark Hendrickson to close the gap, 11-8.
Alberto Castillo now takes over for the O's.
Ortiz just hit his second homer of the game... make that 11-9 Orioles. Can they hang on?
They did... O's win 12-9.
